Former Forensic Analyst Jailed 10 Years for Manipulating DNA Evidence
Former Colorado Bureau of Investigation forensic analyst Yvonne Missy Woods has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to manipulating DNA data in hundreds of criminal cases. Authorities said Woods altered data, deleted information that showed unresolved testing issues and failed to properly document work in case records. The affected cases included homicide, sexual assault and robbery investigations. Her conduct has forced prosecutors to review hundreds of convictions and DNA samples. At least one murder conviction has been overturned, while officials estimate the wider review could cost the state more than $11 million.
