Benue Faces Three-Day Blackout After Alleged Government House Electricity Dispute
Benue residents have reportedly experienced three days of power outages following an alleged dispute between the state Government House and the electricity distribution company. The claims allege that officials discovered an electricity bypass and irregularities involving prepaid power purchases at Government House. The distribution company was said to have imposed a ₦50 million penalty. The report also alleges that company staff, including its Makurdi manager, were assaulted after the penalty was issued. It claims that electricity supply to several substations was subsequently disconnected, leaving much of the state without power. These allegations have not been independently verified.
