Atiku Sells Maryland Mansion for $2.95 Million Amid Long-Running U.S. Visa Questions

A luxury Maryland mansion co-owned by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his wife, Jennifer Douglas, was listed at $3.25 million and placed under a $2.95 million pending sale in February 2018. The seven-bedroom Potomac property was bought in 1999 for $1.75 million. The property had reportedly been unoccupied for years and was not in foreclosure. Atiku’s spokesperson said the sale was a voluntary investment decision, adding that the proceeds would be directed into businesses expected to create jobs. The home drew attention after it was searched by the FBI in 2005 during its investigation into former U.S. congressman William Jefferson. The report states there was no evidence that the 2018 sale was connected to that case or any criminal investigation. Atiku has denied wrongdoing and said his U.S. visa application was undergoing administrative processing.
