Two Nigerians Charged with Cyberstalking and Defamation of Moniepoint
Adebayo Aliu and Fatuntele Tunde have been arraigned before Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia at the Federal High Court in Abuja. They face a seven-count charge of cyberstalking and defamation over an alleged online campaign to tarnish Moniepoint Microfinance Bank’s reputation. Court documents state the duo set up a fake platform in January 2026. They promised ₦500,000 to users who posted “Moniepoint Scandal” comments and fabricated negative stories. The police say this was meant to incite unrest and disrupt public order. Filed under FHC/ABJ/CR/122/2026 by Officer Anthony Egwu, the charges cite violations of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (amended 2024). The defendants did not appear for arraignment, and the case was adjourned to April 27, 2026. Legal experts warn the outcome could set a key precedent for handling online defamation and coordinated digital attacks in Nigeria’s fintech sector.
