Where Nigeria’s Money Went: Top 20 Federal Agencies by Payments in 2026
Federal payment records for February to June 2026 show ₦2.33 trillion in gross disclosed payments across 571 ministries, departments and agencies. These figures are payments made, not budget allocations. Security and defence institutions received the largest amounts. The Nigerian Army recorded ₦349.78 billion, while Police formations and commands received ₦300.02 billion. Together, they accounted for about ₦649.80 billion. Other major recipients include the National Pension Commission (₦104.03 billion), National Judicial Council (₦90.51 billion), Nigerian Navy (₦87.66 billion), National Assembly management (₦86.60 billion) and the Federal Ministry of Works (₦86.43 billion). The list also includes unusually large payments to the Federal Co-operative College, Oji River, and the Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Owerri. The figures were compiled from publicly disclosed government spending data.
