25 Dead After School Bus Carrying Teenagers Plunges Into Ravine in Cape Verde

At least 25 people, including a bus driver and several teenagers, have died after a school bus plunged about 100 feet into a ravine on Fogo Island, Cape Verde. The bus was returning from a field trip when it crashed on the Campanas de Cima route at about 9 p.m. on Saturday. Rescue workers faced difficult conditions in the rocky ravine as some passengers were thrown from the vehicle while others were trapped inside. Nineteen victims were taken to São Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital, with four reported to be in serious condition. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and declared two days of mourning.
