Human Rights Lawyer Demands Military Investigate Soldier’s Death Within 14 Days
Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor has called on the Defence Minister, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff to launch a thorough inquiry into the death of Private Jude Osondu Ude at the 17 Brigade in Katsina. According to Ejiofor, Ude was stabbed on March 15, 2026 and left bleeding inside the barracks. He later died in hospital a week after the attack, yet military authorities allegedly failed to offer medical care or honour his burial. Ejiofor warns that if no transparent probe begins within fourteen days, he will pursue legal action. He highlights the ₦750,000 his father paid to transport the body from Katsina to Enugu and decries the absence of military support or ceremony. He stresses that neglecting a fallen soldier betrays public trust in the armed forces and urges swift accountability to restore confidence and honour service members.
