Amaechi and Sowore Clash Over Past Records, Subsidy and Rail Projects at NBA Conference
A political session at the Nigerian Bar Association’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt turned heated after Omoyele Sowore questioned whether politicians who had previously held office should be trusted with power again. Sowore criticised the records of former Rivers State governor and ex-Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, as well as other former office holders. He argued that leaders should account for their past performance, including their positions on fuel subsidy removal and the impact of public infrastructure. Amaechi defended his record, citing roads and primary schools built during his time as Rivers governor and railway projects completed while he served as minister. He asked Sowore to visit Rivers State to inspect the projects and told him to allow politicians discuss their experience. The exchange formed part of a wider debate on governance, transport policy, fuel subsidy and Nigeria’s political future ahead of the 2027 elections.
