Aregbesola Left Out of Atiku’s ADC Campaign Council Amid Reported Internal Dispute

Rauf Aregbesola, the African Democratic Congress national secretary, was absent from the party’s 2027 presidential campaign council unveiled by Atiku Abubakar. The council includes Atiku’s running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, ADC national chairman David Mark, former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai and former Edo governor John Oyegun. Kashim Imam was named chairman of the council. ADC publicity secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, who was also absent from the list, said the omissions should not be seen as estrangement. He said party officials still have responsibilities to keep the party structure running. However, there are reports of internal disagreements over the council’s composition. Aregbesola was said to have objected to an arrangement that would place party executives under non-party executives in the campaign structure.
