Jeffrey Epstein: Wealth, Criminal Convictions and Death in Custody
Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier and convicted sex offender whose wealth, influential connections and criminal cases drew global scrutiny. He began as a mathematics teacher before moving into banking, later founding J. Epstein & Co. and managing money for wealthy clients. In 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty in Florida to offences involving the solicitation of a minor and served a jail sentence under a controversial plea agreement. He was arrested again in 2019 on federal sex-trafficking charges involving minors, with investigators identifying more than 200 alleged victims. Epstein died in a New York jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial. His death was officially ruled a suicide, though subsequent investigations documented serious failures by correctional staff. His estate at the time of death was estimated at about $560 million to $580 million.
