Tunji-Ojo Urges Nigeria to Treat Border Communities as Security Partners
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has called for stronger collaboration among border communities, universities, security agencies and development partners to improve Nigeria’s border security and migration management. Speaking at the ABORNE 2026 conference in Lagos, the minister said communities along Nigeria’s frontiers should be treated as active partners in security, peace and development. He said their involvement could strengthen early-warning systems, conflict prevention and responses to irregular migration. He also highlighted ongoing reforms in biometric identity systems, passport administration, automated border control and technology-driven security. The conference urged researchers and policymakers to turn borderland research into practical solutions for security, trade, mobility and regional integration.
