Workers Protest as Three Are Abducted from Oyo Cocoa Research Institute, ₦120m Ransom Demanded
Workers at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria in Idi-Ayunre, Oyo State, protested after gunmen abducted three people, including two employees, during working hours on October 8. The victims were identified as Mrs Eunice Babalola, head of the institute’s Central Nursery, and agricultural superintendent Kehinde Gbalajobi. A third victim, a resident of the staff quarters, has not been identified. The abductors reportedly demanded ₦120 million, although police have not confirmed the ransom demand. Police say tactical teams have launched a manhunt to rescue the victims. The incident is the third reported kidnapping linked to the institute since March, raising fresh concerns over security for staff, visitors and nearby residents.
