Libegun Aregbe Residents Urge Ogun Government to Halt Alleged Land Takeover
Residents of Libegun Aregbe community in Ogun State have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene over an alleged fresh encroachment on their ancestral land by the state Ministry of Housing. Community leaders said the government acquired more than 100 hectares of their land in 2020 for a housing project. They claimed the remaining land is needed for the village’s future growth and survival. The Baale, Chief John Akinsola, and other leaders alleged that a bulldozer was brought into the area on August 22, raising fears of another land-clearing exercise. They also alleged that the community did not receive adequate dialogue, compensation or basic benefits from the earlier development. The residents want an urgent meeting involving the state government, the Ministry of Housing and community representatives. The ministry had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of the report.
