South-East Recorded Nigeria’s Lowest Reported Kidnapping Cases in May 2026
The South-East recorded the lowest number of reported kidnapping cases among Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in May 2026, according to National Human Rights Commission data published by a statistics platform. The zone recorded three cases, while the South-West recorded 57. The North-East had 53 cases, followed by the North-West with 45, North-Central with 37, and South-South with seven. These figures reflect reported kidnapping cases for May only. They do not measure every form of crime or insecurity, so they should not be used alone to declare any region Nigeria’s safest overall.
