FG Plans Portal to Track State and Local Government Allocations, Budgets and Projects
The Federal Government plans to launch a transparency portal that would allow Nigerians to monitor allocations, budgets, development plans and audited accounts for states and all 774 local government areas. The proposed platform would let citizens select a local government and compare funds received with projects included in its budget and the level of implementation. The initiative is intended to improve public accountability, not to give the Federal Government control over state and local government spending. The plan follows increased revenue shared across the three tiers of government after subsidy removal and foreign-exchange reforms. In March 2026, states received ₦657.596 billion and local governments received ₦468.826 billion from the Federation Account. By June, their allocations had risen to ₦838.208 billion and ₦591.390 billion respectively. The government says the portal could help citizens assess whether increased public funds are translating into better services and projects in their communities.
