Obi Urges Tinubu to Cancel UK Trip over Renewed Terror Attacks
Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and ADC chieftain, has condemned the suicide bombings that shook Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday. He describes Nigeria as “a nation under siege” and criticises the government’s failure to protect citizens. Obi urged President Bola Tinubu to scrap his upcoming UK state visit and instead visit communities ravaged by terrorists and bandits. He highlighted coordinated attacks in markets, near hospitals and across states like Kwara, Nasarawa and Sokoto. He warned that security agencies face a critical test and called for immediate action at home. Obi stressed that leadership requires prioritising the protection of lives over foreign travel. Tinubu’s spokesperson, Daniel Bwala, dismissed Obi’s call as uninformed, insisting the president is supported by security agencies and that criticisms from a “trader” show a misunderstanding of governance.
