Ikeja Electric’s High Tariffs and Unstable Supply Threaten Lagos Businesses

Ikeja Electric’s High Tariffs and Unstable Supply Threaten Lagos Businesses — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Business owners across Lagos State say steep electricity tariffs and frequent outages from Ikeja Electric are eroding their profits. They report that since the appointment of the new acting Managing Director, monthly bills have soared and free MD meters once supplied by Eko Electric now cost over two million naira. Unreliable power forces many to buy diesel, maintain generators and repair damaged equipment. A general manager in Ajao Estate explained that voltage spikes destroy ovens, chillers and air conditioners. He says poor supply also spoils perishable goods and drives up operational costs. Owners urge Ikeja Electric to provide at least 18 hours of stable, regular-voltage supply and to maintain transformers and cables more effectively so local businesses can survive and grow.
