Nathaniel Bassey Reportedly Becomes First African Gospel Artist With 1 Billion YouTube Views
Nigerian gospel singer and worship leader Nathaniel Bassey has reportedly crossed one billion views on his official YouTube channel, making him the first African gospel artist to reach the milestone. Analytics figures showed the channel at about 1.014 billion views and 5.24 million subscribers as of November 1, 2026. The recent October edition of the Hallelujah Challenge helped drive the increase, with its opening session and grand finale each attracting more than four million views. Launched in 2017, the Hallelujah Challenge has grown from an Instagram midnight worship session into a global online gathering for praise, prayer, testimonies and gospel music. Bassey has also said he does not monetise the worship broadcasts, maintaining that the programme is not a commercial venture.
