Storm Collapses Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Transmission Tower, Disrupts Power Corridor
Strong winds and heavy rainfall have reportedly collapsed Tower T367 on the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line, disrupting bulk electricity transmission along the corridor. The Transmission Company of Nigeria said the line tripped at about 10:44pm on September 7. It tripped again shortly after an attempted restoration, prompting an inspection by engineers from the Birnin Kebbi sub-region. The company said it has begun deploying personnel, equipment and materials to rebuild the tower. Electricity supply to Sokoto is being maintained through an alternative route from the Kaduna–Mando axis via the Zaria–Funtua–Gusau 132kV line while repairs continue.
