Ex-Alpha-Beta Employee Alleges ₦150,000 Bribe Demand and Police Intimidation

Ex-Alpha-Beta Employee Alleges ₦150,000 Bribe Demand and Police Intimidation

A former Alpha-Beta Consulting employee, Segun Oluwasanmi, has alleged that the company’s head of human capital management demanded and received a ₦150,000 bribe to process outstanding travel allowances for staff who attended a training programme in Egypt. Oluwasanmi said the affected workers were underpaid after their allowances were calculated at an exchange rate below the prevailing rate and for six days instead of the eight days they travelled. He said the alleged bribe was linked to a refund of ₦3.31 million and that bank-transfer records and WhatsApp messages were submitted as evidence. The former employee, through the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, has petitioned the police, ICPC and EFCC. He also alleged that efforts to pursue the complaint led to harassment, intimidation and attempts to link him to an unrelated case. Alpha-Beta Consulting and the accused official have not been reported as responding to the allegations.
