NCC Says Copyright Enforcement Is Reducing Piracy in Nigeria
The Nigerian Copyright Commission says enforcement of the Copyright Act 2022 is helping to reduce piracy, although it has not yet released data showing the scale of the decline. The commission says piracy deprives filmmakers, musicians and other creators of income, discourages investment and can weaken Nigeria’s appeal to foreign partners. It is assessing the impact of the law on the creative industry. The NCC says it has blocked illegal websites and platforms, including a movie piracy site that used a Nigerian domain. It urged stronger collaboration among stakeholders as streaming and mobile access make copyright protection more important.
