Delta Civil Servant’s Death: Group Urges Calm as Police, Panel Investigate
The Integrity Group of Nigeria in Delta State has appealed for calm after the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a deputy director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education. The group urged his family, civil servants and organised labour to allow ongoing investigations to establish the facts. The death had caused tension within the Delta civil service, with organised labour temporarily shutting the state secretariat and demanding a transparent investigation. Workers later returned to work after discussions with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and assurances that the matter would be investigated. An eight-member administrative panel has begun sitting, while the police are conducting a separate criminal investigation. Reports indicate that the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, and other persons have been questioned as investigators examine the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s hospitalisation and death. The group said anyone found responsible should face the law, while warning against speculation or using the tragedy for political advantage.
