Curfew Imposed in Taraba Communities After Deadly Mambilla Plateau Attacks
A 24-hour curfew has been imposed in Mbamnga, Mbara and Geroji communities in Taraba State after attacks left several people dead, including a DSS officer. The violence reportedly began on Tuesday and continued into Wednesday in parts of Sardauna Local Government Area. Residents said houses were burnt, livestock were killed and many people, including women and children, fled their homes. Some reportedly crossed into neighbouring Cameroon for safety. The council chairman said security operatives had been deployed and ordered strict enforcement of the curfew. However, residents said attacks were still being reported in some pastoralist settlements. Community leaders have appealed for calm and urged residents, traditional rulers, religious leaders and youth leaders to avoid actions that could worsen the tension.
