Osun Police Probe Alleged ₦22.3m Farmers Grant Scheme Involving 4,000 Registrants

Osun Police Probe Alleged ₦22.3m Farmers Grant Scheme Involving 4,000 Registrants

The Osun State Police Command has opened an investigation into an alleged fraud involving a farmers’ grant programme said to have collected ₦22.33 million from about 4,000 registrants. Police said the suspect allegedly introduced the Farmer and Consumers Initiative in May 2026, claiming that philanthropists had provided grants of up to ₦3 million for selected farmers. Participants reportedly paid a ₦5,000 registration fee and were required to bring in two other people who also paid the fee. The scheme allegedly promised participants ₦50,000 after one week, followed by ₦100,000 and ₦200,000 instalments until they received ₦3 million. Complaints about the programme’s legitimacy led to a petition to the police. Investigators are also examining whether herbal and chemical products allegedly linked to the suspect were properly registered and approved. The matter has been referred to NAFDAC, while police advised residents to verify grant, empowerment and investment schemes before paying money.
