FCT Court Forfeits N4.6bn Jewellery, N4.3bn Cars and $50,000 Linked to Socialite Aisha Achimugu

FCT Court Forfeits N4.6bn Jewellery, N4.3bn Cars and $50,000 Linked to Socialite Aisha Achimugu

Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court has granted EFCC’s application to finally forfeit properties tied to Abuja socialite Aisha Achimugu. Investigations by the anti-graft agency uncovered jewellery worth about N4.65bn, 11 exotic cars valued at N4.3bn, $50,000 and N30m in cash. These assets were traced to over 136 bank accounts with unexplained inflows and outflows. In searches at her residence, EFCC recovered the seized items. Achimugu also failed to declare these assets on the official Asset Declaration Form, according to the agency. After an interim forfeiture order in April and legal challenges from both sides, the judge ruled on July 16 that Achimugu did not prove the lawful origin of the assets. The court has now handed them over to the Federal Government.

It's surprising a single individual amassed N4.6bn jewellery and 11 exotic cars without raising earlier red flags.

We should question whether forfeiture alone deters future corruption or if deeper reforms are needed to stop misuse of power.

Citizens can stay informed by monitoring EFCC updates and supporting transparent asset declarations to prevent similar cases in the future.
