Zimbabwe Hospital Charged After Amputated Leg Is Found at Dump Site
A private hospital in Southerton, Harare, is facing charges after an amputated leg and medical waste were found at a dumping site in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe. Police said the limb was reportedly placed by mistake in a consignment of medical waste collected from the hospital. A woman searching for recyclable plastics discovered the partially burnt leg, which was wrapped in bandages. Syringes, gloves and other medical materials were also found nearby. Investigators traced the limb to a 71-year-old patient who underwent a below-knee amputation for a diabetic foot ulcer in August. Police said the hospital may be charged under Zimbabwe's Environmental Management Act as investigations continue.
