Onoh Urges Macron to Postpone Planned State Visit to Nigeria
A former South-East presidential spokesman, Denge Josef Onoh, has urged French President Emmanuel Macron to postpone his planned October 28–29 state visit to Nigeria, citing unrest and domestic challenges in France. Onoh said Macron should focus on addressing concerns at home before pursuing diplomatic engagements abroad. He also argued that Nigeria should prioritise its own economic and electoral challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections. Macron’s proposed visit is expected to build on discussions held during President Bola Tinubu’s 2024 trip to France, including cooperation on trade, energy, finance, security, communications and solid minerals. It would be Macron’s first visit to Nigeria since 2018.
