INEC Releases Final List of Candidates for 2027 Presidential and National Assembly Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, scheduled for January 16. The presidential race features candidates from 18 political parties. The published list states that the candidates are aged between 35 and 80 and have qualifications ranging from primary-school certificates and secondary-school credentials to university degrees and doctorates. It also indicates that none of the presidential candidates or their running mates declared a disability. Two women, Ada Okwori of the National Democratic Party and Nkem Okereke of the National Rescue Movement, are listed as presidential candidates. The list also includes four female vice-presidential candidates. Among the prominent tickets listed are Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima for the APC, Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi for the ADC, and Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso for the NDC. Other parties on the list include the LP, PDP, AAC, SDP, PRP, YPP and ZLP.
