US Advocacy Firm Urges Lenders to Pause New Loans to Nigeria Before 2027 Election
A United States-based advocacy firm has urged international financial institutions to suspend new lending to Nigeria until after the 2027 presidential election. The group said the Tinubu administration is reportedly seeking billions of dollars from lenders including the World Bank, the European Investment Bank and France’s development agency. It argued that Nigeria’s history of corruption raises concerns about how fresh loans could be used, and called for lending to be paused until Nigerians elect their next leaders.
