What Followed Us Home From a Noakhali Bamboo Grove
1 / 3
My family travelled from Dhaka to our village in Noakhali during the winter of 2019. We stayed at my aunt’s house beside a pond, a poultry shed and a thick bamboo grove. The trip began warmly, with visits to relatives, village food and childhood memories. But as dusk fell, we hurried along a path beneath old trees after leaving one aunt’s house. I had always heard warnings about being outside on village paths at that hour. What happened after that night is something my family still cannot explain.
