Esimone Urges Africa to Turn Gas Reserves Into Industries and Jobs
Former UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor Prof. Charles Esimone has urged African governments and businesses to move beyond exporting natural gas and build industries that create jobs, technology and long-term economic value. Speaking on October 28 at the EMOGAS International Natural Gas-Based Industry Conference in Abuja, Esimone said Africa must develop its gas resources responsibly, attract investment and strengthen partnerships among producers. He called for predictable policies, effective regulation and greater collaboration between universities, research institutions, energy firms and entrepreneurs. He added that African engineers and scientists must play a stronger role in developing local solutions across the gas value chain. The conference also examined LNG trade, financing for indigenous operators, gas utilisation, energy security and technology for protecting critical gas infrastructure.
