NDC Boycotts Enugu LG Poll, Alleges Exclusion by ENSIEC
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu says it will boycott the state’s local government election scheduled for September 26, 2026. The party alleges that the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) denied it electoral materials and failed to communicate preparations for the poll. The party said it made several attempts to engage ENSIEC, including letters from its national secretariat and correspondence sent through a courier service. It alleged that the commission did not acknowledge its communications or recognise its state executive. NDC officials also claimed their legal efforts were unsuccessful, alleging that ENSIEC did not appear in court and that delays could prevent the matter from being heard before the election. The party called on civil society groups, the media and democratic institutions to examine the allegations and ensure equal participation in the poll.
