Yelewata Elders Apologise to Peter Obi, Invite Him Back After Convoy Blockade
The Council of Yelewata Elders in Benue State has apologised to Peter Obi after youths reportedly blocked his convoy during his planned condolence visit to the community. At a press conference in Yelewata, the elders condemned the disruption and said those responsible did not represent the community. They expressed regret over the embarrassment caused to Obi and his delegation. The elders said Obi had planned to sympathise with families affected by the June 2025 attack and offer personal relief support. They appealed to him to accept a fresh invitation to visit displaced residents and bereaved families. The community also called for a transparent account of donations and reconstruction support reportedly received after the attack, which they said killed more than 270 people.
