2027: Umahi Says It Is Not Yet the South-East’s Turn to Produce President

Minister of Works David Umahi says the South-East will produce a Nigerian president in the future, but argues that the region’s turn has not come yet. Speaking in Benin City during an event on the Benin-Asaba Road project, Umahi defended his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027. He said Tinubu should complete another term before the South-East pursues the presidency. Umahi also responded to comparisons with Peter Obi, saying their records, experience and contributions to the South-East should be assessed. At the event, he announced plans to redesign the 136-kilometre Benin-Asaba dual carriageway with reinforced concrete pavement.
