MTN Explains Why Your Data Bundle May Finish Faster Than Expected
MTN Nigeria says fast data depletion is usually caused by background apps, automatic downloads, cloud backups and high-quality video streaming, rather than unexplained deductions from subscribers’ accounts. At its Abuja forum, the telecom company said apps such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp can use data even when users are not actively browsing. Video autoplay, HD streaming, status updates and automatic media downloads can quickly reduce a bundle. MTN added that phone data records may differ from network records by 2% to 12% because devices and telecom networks measure usage differently. It advised subscribers to disable mobile-data app updates, limit cloud backups to Wi-Fi, reduce streaming quality, monitor hotspot use and activate data-saving settings.
