Family Appeals for Mercy as 19-Year-Old Remains in Custody Over Alleged X Post

The family of 19-year-old Emmanuel Chidera Akwuobi has appealed to Tony and Awele Elumelu for forgiveness following his arraignment over an alleged defamatory post on X. Police accused Akwuobi, known online as Deriko, of publishing claims capable of damaging Awele Elumelu’s reputation. He pleaded not guilty before a Federal High Court in Lagos and was remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service while his bail application is expected to be heard. His family says the continued detention could affect his final-year National Diploma examinations. The allegation has not been proven in court, and the case remains pending.
