EFCC Offers Whistleblowers Up to 5% of Recovered Overseas Assets
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says whistleblowers can earn between 2.5% and 5% of assets recovered through credible information on Nigerian funds and property allegedly hidden abroad. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede announced the incentive at an economic crime symposium in Cambridge, urging people with useful information to come forward. He said large recoveries could result in substantial rewards for informants. Olukoyede said the commission has recovered and forfeited cash and assets worth more than $500 million since he assumed office. He cited recoveries including an aircraft, a university, estates and houses allegedly linked to proceeds of crime. He added that 752 housing units linked to former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele had been recovered, while 48 of 57 properties identified in investigations involving former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami had been forfeited.
