2027: Why Parties Must Back Rigging Claims With Polling-Unit Evidence
Concerns about election malpractice remain valid ahead of 2027. Vote-buying, violence and disputes during collation can still undermine an election. However, altering results on a large scale is now more difficult because voting and collation leave more verifiable records. BVAS accreditation limits valid votes to accredited voters. Ballots are counted openly at polling units, while party agents receive signed copies of Form EC8A before results leave the unit. Polling-unit results can also be uploaded to INEC’s IReV for comparison with final declarations. Technology and independent monitors can provide another layer of scrutiny by tracking uploaded result sheets.
