DNA Identifies Remains of Maryland Teen Missing Since 1977 in North Carolina Cold Case
Authorities have identified human remains found in Wilson County, North Carolina, in December 1977 as those of Cindy Marcell Blizzard, a 15-year-old girl who had gone missing from Monkton, Maryland, earlier that year. Her skeletal remains and clothing were discovered in a wooded area near a Firestone manufacturing facility. Although the manner of death has not been determined, investigators are treating the case as a homicide because of the circumstances surrounding the discovery. The case was reopened in 2010. Advanced DNA testing and genetic genealogy helped investigators identify Blizzard in 2024. Authorities say the investigation remains active as they seek to establish what happened to her.
