EFCC, FBI to Probe Alleged Diversion of USAID Health Programme Funds by Nigerian NGOs
The EFCC and the FBI plan to investigate alleged diversion and mismanagement of funds received by Nigerian non-governmental organisations under United States-supported programmes. The probe will focus on organisations involved in HIV and tuberculosis interventions funded through USAID and other US government arrangements. The agencies said concerns arose after some USAID-supported programmes were shut down in 2025, leaving questions about how unspent funds were managed. Investigators are examining allegations of inflated budgets and other financial irregularities in Kano and other states. The EFCC says it will trace the funds, identify their ultimate beneficiaries and determine whether the money was used for its intended purposes.
