Why Nigeria Needs Nuhu Ribadu’s Leadership Now

General Ishola Williams has called for a shake-up in Nigeria’s security leadership. He doubts the qualifications of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. This view, however, underestimates the complexity of national security. National security spans defense, diplomacy, economic growth, and social cohesion. Ribadu’s record at the EFCC shows his ability to fight corruption—one of Nigeria’s greatest threats. His legal training and governance experience help him coordinate intelligence and policy across agencies. General Williams focuses mainly on military strength. Ribadu, by contrast, pushes for community engagement, economic development, and education to tackle root causes of violence. His collaborative model brings together security forces, civil society, and local stakeholders. Rather than abrupt leadership changes, Nigeria needs constructive dialogue and stronger partnerships. Backing seasoned professionals like Ribadu builds trust and resilience. A holistic strategy offers the best path to lasting stability.
