Ejiofor Slams FG’s Terrorist Rehabilitation Proposal Over Justice Concerns
Nigerian human rights lawyer Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor has condemned the federal government’s plan to rehabilitate and reintegrate terrorists. He argues that granting amnesty to violent actors raises serious legal and moral questions about justice and our collective memory. In a recent statement, he warned that such a policy risks rewarding impunity and emboldening those who have targeted innocent citizens and security forces. He stressed that efforts at redemption must not erode the sacrifices of fallen soldiers. I write this with a heavy heart. My driver’s son, a young soldier awaiting promotion, was killed by bandits. I tried to console his distraught father while knowing the same perpetrators could one day be welcomed back under this policy. Ejiofor calls for a firm and principled resolve that honours the dead and protects the living. Without a clear sense of justice and consistency, he warns, the fight against terror may remain an unending mirage.
