₦600bn Cash Transfers: Where Are the Beneficiaries and Public Records?
The federal government says it has disbursed more than ₦600 billion in cash transfers to vulnerable Nigerians since President Bola Tinubu took office. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction said the programme has reached over 10 million households, potentially covering about 40 million people. This should be a major intervention, but the public still lacks clear, independently verifiable local data on where the funds have gone. Given past audit concerns around social-investment programmes, aggregate records by ward or local government would help Nigerians assess whether the support is reaching the people who need it. I have not met a verified beneficiary in my community, despite the scale of the reported disbursement. A public, anonymised tracking portal could protect recipients' identities while showing how many households in each area have received support. If you or someone you know has received a payment under this programme, please share the experience in the comments.
