How the Ooni of Ife United Traditional Rulers for a Historic Visit to Aso Rock
Yesterday in Abuja, the National Traditional Rulers Council gathered at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel for a landmark meeting with the Federal Government at the Presidential Villa. Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, welcomed his fellow monarchs and held brief consultations before the procession. Thanks to heightened security at Aso Rock, the Federal Government issued special access tags to the Ooni, who distributed them to each traditional ruler. This ensured a smooth passage through multiple checkpoints for the entire delegation. Once inside the banquet hall, a subtle moment caught the eye when the Alaafin and the Oluwo quietly removed their tags—suggesting separate invitations despite entering together. Nonetheless, Ooni Ogunwusi’s coordination underscored his central role in bringing Nigeria’s traditional institutions into unified dialogue with the presidency.
