Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Warns US Over Naval Escorts in Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned that it could target US military bases in the Middle East if American forces continue escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The Guard said increased naval escorts could expand the conflict across the region. It also claimed that four ships were hit overnight in the wider Gulf, although those incidents have not been independently confirmed. The Strait of Hormuz is a major global energy route between Iran and Oman. Before the conflict began, about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passed through the waterway.
