Nigeria’s Problem Is Not a Lack of Talent, but What We Reward

Nigeria does not lack intelligent people. We have brilliant graduates, entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, doctors, creatives and young people with bold ideas. Yet intelligence and hard work do not always lead to opportunity. Too often, connections matter more than competence, loyalty more than honesty, and money more than merit. This leaves many capable people frustrated, underpaid, unemployed or forced to seek better opportunities abroad. Poor governance survives when we tolerate mediocrity, defend incompetence because it benefits our side, and treat public office as a personal opportunity. We need to reward competence, accountability, innovation and integrity if we want different results. Nigeria does not need more speeches about greatness. We need a system that gives talented people a fair chance to succeed.
