FG Approves Eastern and Western Power Grids to Tackle Repeated Collapses
The Federal Government has approved plans to build new Eastern and Western electricity grids to strengthen Nigeria’s transmission network and reduce recurring grid collapses. Power Minister Joseph Tegbe said the projects are entering the procurement stage, with benefits expected within two to three years. He said the government has also begun a nationwide technical audit to identify the exact faults affecting electricity infrastructure. According to Tegbe, repairs will be prioritised based on the audit findings, including problems with transformers, conductors, relays, insulators, towers and transmission lines. He added that parts of the existing network are decades old, with some facilities dating back to the era before NEPA.
