FERMA Engages 50 Imo Youths for Owerri–Okigwe Road Maintenance
The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency has engaged 50 youths from communities along the Owerri–Okigwe Road in Imo State for routine and preventive maintenance work. The workers received ₦70,000 each for a month of work involving vegetation clearing, desilting of concrete drains and pothole patching. FERMA said the intervention met its planned targets. The agency said clearing overgrown vegetation will improve motorists’ visibility and reduce potential criminal hideouts. Desilting drains is also expected to limit flooding, waterlogging and damage to the road pavement. Residents along the corridor welcomed the project, saying it improved road conditions while providing temporary income and encouraging community involvement in protecting the highway.
