Group Seeks Clear Accounting of Nigeria’s Social Register and Cash Transfer Data

PeacePro has asked the Federal Government to harmonise household, population and beneficiary records used for Nigeria’s social protection programmes. The group says official figures on the National Social Register, agricultural households and cash-transfer recipients need clearer definitions, dates and methodology. It noted that 19.7 million registered households were said to represent more than 70 million people, while other sources put the wider social registry at about 86 million people. PeacePro said these differences may be valid, but government should explain how household size, registry components and reporting periods were calculated. The group also called for a public reconciliation of the cash-transfer programme, including the number of households that received one, two or three ₦25,000 payments and how this matches the reported ₦330 billion disbursed. It wants relevant agencies to publish a unified household-data framework and conduct an independent technical review for duplicate records, identity matching and payment tracking.
