Sowore Criticises NDLEA’s Destruction of Seized Cannabis, Calls for Legalisation
Omoyele Sowore has criticised the NDLEA for destroying 329,865.585 kilogrammes of seized illicit substances in Lagos, an operation carried out after a Federal High Court order. The agency said the drugs were valued at about ₦301.058 billion and included cannabis, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, tramadol, codeine syrup and other controlled substances. Sowore argued that Nigeria should legalise and regulate cannabis for medical and industrial use rather than destroy it. He said a regulated cannabis industry could create jobs, support research and generate revenue, while describing the current policy as outdated.
